Thursday night I went to see R. Carlos Nakai and Udi Bar-David, such an amazing performance. Nakai is a Navajo/Ute flute player and Bar-David is an Israeli cellist, both amazing musicians. Nakai plays several different native american flutes, all with a different tuning, while Bar-David accompanies on many pieces with the cello, which he plays flawlessly. Amazing to see such good musicians with such different backgrounds working together. Bar-David performs with the Philadelphia Symphony as well, such a nice cello he had too, over 300 years old and Italian, though I could almost tell this by the wood it was made of and the shape of the f holes on it. They had a very good percussionist with them as well, though his name I forget at the moment, other than he was Puerto Rican and has an album coming out soon. If anyone gets a chance you should check out their album Voyagers, or go see them perform, they will be in Philly until Tuesday. The Sunoco Performance Theater, which they played in, is very small, mayber holds 600 people, and wasn't packed, not a bad seat in the place, and I think I was one of the younger people there in fact, a shame though as I say both amazing performers. Oh and below is a little picture I got after the show. :>
